Warming trend
Has anybody noticed the lack of commentary about global warming during the past two weeks - not including the day after the global warming report was released - when the temperatures have been several degrees below normal and rarely above freezing and have put us on a path toward the coldest February in a long time. [This began as a question, rhetorical of course, but went into a statement, and ended as a question but without a question mark. It's back to grammar school Joe] Just a simple observation. [Oops Joe,simple indeed, but was it a sentence? Was there a point? Does a brief and normal cold snap in one part of the world deny a global trend?]
This is a good time to share a rhyme I wrote while in high school, when I was charged with writing such things for each month as a feature in our school newspaper.
[Is anytime a good time for you to share a poem with us? We can see how your writing skills have developed since high school.]
February,
A cold and snowy month are you.
Why did they cut you off so short?
What bad thing did you do?
[A cold and snowy month are you? Why was this a good time to share your rhyme? When is The Capital going to cut you off so short for all the bad things you do? And who are "they" anyhow?]

mean and heartless commentary like this are why all of us in ward 8 are very lucky you are not our city representative.
Dear Anonymous:
Well-where do I begin? I have enough self respect and respect for my readers that I identify myself. I am not afraid to take a stand. I do this as a public service. Who are you? Why do you write anonymously? And if you dislike me so much, why do you read my blog? Perhaps you are Joe Gross? What I have said about Joe is neither mean nor heartless. It is my opinion and if you have read any of the letters about him over the years in The Capital, you would see that I am far from alone or extreme in my opinion. He gets paid to write in the area's number one news media and he is a blathering and irresponsible illiterate who is unaccountable to anyone.
He is just one of the many public figures I take on by expressing my point of view, by speaking truth to power. The many people who did vote for me and support me did so because I am an informed and responsible person who takes public servic and accountability seriously. People know where I stand. You may not like that. You may not like me. You should at least have the fortitude to identify yourself. Of what are you afraid? And finally, if you had enough wherewithall and courage to run for public office you would find out why so many good people shirk from doing so--because of nasty and mean people such as yourself who are so quick to condemn those who put their name on the line. So-go ahead and reply-but identify yourself please.
Glad to see that you enjoyed the column, Paul.
Joe: Capital readers can't wait to read your next poem about the month of March. Let's see, will it be something about a lion and a lamb perhaps? Or would that be a lamb chop-smothered in mint jelly? Something about a kite perhaps? The ides of March? And time marches on? The March of Dimes? Let's see what your creative juices will stir up for us next month. Readers are anxious. Oh, and does this recent ice storm negate the FACT that the earth is warming?
