(Photo to Left taken 2-28-07 shows sidewalk in Annapolis illegally blocked for two weeks!! Mayor Moyer-please remove!!).Our Mayor loves to plant trees yet when it comes to removing dead branches, she seems loathe to take action (and again, CP is only speaking about actual dead branches and is not referring to specific government employees or department…..). Although she talks about how our city is a walking paradise and how we must stop global warming, she is missing a chance here and now to support walking--a public right and a municipality responsibility.
Although CP generally thinks our fair city provides reasonably effective services, especially in emergencies, it is not hesitant to point out that two weeks after the Valentine’s Day ice storm, Public Works has still not collected the tree limbs and branches that residents have collected and in some cases, piled up on city sidewalks. This is illegal, dangerous and an offense to the residents who have a right to walk on our sidewalks. What is the problem?
In CP’s neighborhood, yard waste is removed every other Tuesday. Since the storm interfered with that normal collection, the next yard waste removal date should have been February 27. Nothing apparently happened. A huge pile of downed branches and limbs still blocks sidewalks and branches are piled up on city streets. The City government, which for some reason did not remove these the day on which it was scheduled, tells residents that it won’t be happening until a Special pick up scheduled for yet another week later.
Why are our sidewalks treated as dumping grounds when they should be respected as essential parts of our transportation network? Our City can and should do better.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! CALL YOUR ALDERMAN! CALL THE MAYOR’S OFFICE!

I live in Eastport. My branches were picked up. From the picture you displayed, I have a good idea as to why those branches were not picked up. They aren't bundled correctly. Mine were, and they're gone. from annapolis.gov, and as a service to your readers who aren't getting their yard waste picked up:
#
YARD-RECYCLING COLLECTION
WHAT WILL BE COLLECTED:
* Yard-Recycling may consist of: grass clippings, weeds and discarded plants, leaves, branches and brush; wrap with natural fiber rope or twine; finished bundle shall be no more than two feet by four feet in size.
* DO NOT INCLUDE: Household garbage or trash, food waste, hazardous waste, animal wastes, dead animals, metal items, lumber or construction debris, rocks, or dirt.
* LOOSE LEAVES will be collected according to the Leaf Vacuum Schedule which is published in the local newspaper each fall. Call 410-263-7967 for further information.
PREPARATION:
* Wrap branches, vines, brush so that they can be picked up as a unit.
* Use natural fiber rope or twine. Wire, nylon and plastic get caught in the shredder and are not compostable.
* The finished bundle should be no more than 2 ft. by 4 ft.
* Place unbundled yard waste in a marked biodegradable bag, cardboard box, or in an open refuse container.
* Please place your leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste in brown PAPER leaf bags (available at your local home or hardware stores). Plastic bags must be separated from collected yard-recycling and discarded before processing for composting. Our crews must use precious time to sort through and separate the collection. By using the paper bags, it'll help us make better use of your tax dollars and allow more time to assist you.
* PLEASE MARK ALL YARD-RECYCLING. You may do this by making an "X" with masking tape, taping a sheet of paper marked "YR" to your container or marking your container directly so that the collection crews may discern yard waste from refuse.
* Place yard-recycling at the curb the night before to assure pick up.
* Composted yard-recycling is available to City residents at no charge. Our crews continually recycle the City's Yard Waste and provide it in a mulch form for City residents to use free of charge At the Truxtun Park Boat Ramp, next to the new bathroom facility, there is a permanent new pad for the mulch. As we accumulate the processed mulch, we deliver it to this pad. It is not monitored and, therefore, available on a "first-come, first-serve" basis. In addition to the mixed mulch, in the early spring, there may be pine mulch from the processed Christmas trees. Please direct questions to 410-263-7967 or e-mail Public Works.

I assume that you weren't interested in providing the public service to your community of listing the rules and regs for branch pickup?
The fact that you only post those comments that you like, as opposed to allowing this to be an open response area, makes your blog fairly worthless, and completely one sided.
Dear Presres...whomever you may be.
You are yet another anonymous whiner who is too afraid of any real public discourse to provide your name, but loves to complain and accuse CP of not being to his or her exacting tastes. Perhaps you don't vote either. The purpose of CP is not to explain local rules and regulations to residents, nor is it that of being another municipal website. The issue here is not about bundling twigs, it's about why our local government tolerates this blatant violation of its own law--which is not to block sidewalks and not to place anything out for pickup more than 24 hours in advance. This is the same government that says we must shovel our sidewalks after a storm. It is about why it is unacceptable to wait THREE WEEKS for a pickup. It has nothing to do with bundling twigs. Get it now? You have the warped sense of irony to write, "The fact that you only post those comments that you like, as opposed to allowing this to be an open response area, makes your blog fairly worthless, and completely one sided." Excuuuuse me? What's not "open" about this webblog when I write openly and allow even weasels such as you to post your whiney comments anonymously? You know who CP is! What is one sided? Give us a break! Show yourself! Maybe you are directly involved in this somehow? Who are you? Presres??? President of a resident's association? Uncloak yourself and carry on a responsible and accountable dialogue, unless you believe your words are not worthy. Maybe CP should not allow anonymous letters. The Capital and most newspapers do not! So, will the real presres please stand up?
