Mayor says she is out of ideas, and asks “what is it we’re missing”? Well, for starters, we could find a new police chief who is willing to bring in new ideas, vision and energy--and no political attachments. It is a normal practice in most cities to find a new chief every once in a while, just as it is normal practice for school boards to hire new superintendents and corporations to bring in new accounting firms and advertising agencies. That’s the first thing the Mayor seems to be missing. Maybe she is just waiting for the chief to retire, but that process could be sped along….Next we could ensure we fill the 20 vacant positions in the police department yet we seem to hear very little about this. Next we should stop treating our public housing as fiefdoms and recognize they are in the city and are populated by city residents and are the centers of a disproportionate amount of violent crime in our city.
CP believes the Mayor is beginning to seriously look at rising violent crime and is cooperating with other levels of government. It is late. Please make this a priority. Gangs are on the move. We should be on the move too!

The Mayor wants to know what is missing? I disagree with CP on the idea of a new police chief will bring anything more than what we have now – the Mayor has a good relationship with the Chief now so let use what we have in “personnel” instead of reinventing the wheel. Maybe the title “Drive-by Shootings! Father Gunned Down in Bywater! Another Shooting in Robinwood” had me thinking you were going to explain how CP can help or at the least attack the cowards who are doing the shooting instead of elevating the shooter(s). In either case, CP look at history, find me one case where the government helped in a situation in which gangs were involved. The word gang, mafia, or mob in western English – all have the same (negative) meaning. Violence, terror and threats are met by the government by the same with corruption, bribery, and dishonesty not too far behind. You can’t be a gang without some monetary institution backing – (there aren’t any broke gangs) Money and power are keys – so if poorer, weaker neighborhoods fall to the whims of gang activity—don’t you think that it is just a matter of time that the more elite neighborhoods will be affected? So what’s the answer? I think it would be absurd to say I have the solution(s), only a willingness to do my part to help those who need/want to help and be helped.
B-OUT!!
Peace
