Lending further credence to the reliability and influence of Capital Punishment, CP would like to remind readers and the general public that the sale of The Capital-Gazette Newspapers as published in today's Capital, was first reported here on
Wednesday, February 28, 2007!!! CP would like to thank the alert local reader and supporter, a well-known activist, for bringing this to CP's attention. ...and here is partially republished for you the now nearly two-month old story...see the February 28 post for the complete story. And hey you folks at L:andmark Communications--CP is for sale at the right price, and don't forget to pay special attention to Joe Gross and Eric Smith...they need attention...puhleeze!!!

CAPITAL FOR SALE? CP SWEARS IT IS NOT AMONG BIDDERS
IS THE CAPITAL FOR SALE? INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW

With the demise of former Capital owner and publisher Phil Merrill by his own hand last year (gives new meaning to the term “news anchor“), it was not long for rumors to surface that our local newspaper is up for sale. Aaaggghhh rumors. They are but whispers of intrigue and speculation, but they are grist for the blogger’s mill. The large and supposedly highly profitable but privately-held local employer would be a real sweet cherry for Gannett or The Washington Post Company or some other larger and voracious media conglomerate to swoop in and swallow.

Lest there be any groundswell of gossip, CP would like to lay to rest here and now the very notion that it is leading a group of investors to purchase the august daily, which bills itself as America’s oldest newspaper. Although there may be a kernel of truth to that claim of longevity, there is no truth, absolutely no truth to the rumor that CP is either involved with purchasing the paper or has been tapped to become its new editor.

In response to CP's "Who is running for Mayor of Annapolis?...who"

As reported by both the Sun and the Capital this week, there are many names being mentioned, and some have even started to raise money and un-officially campaign.
CP says who cares, I believe that when it comes to our currently elected Alderman (over half of whom will neither confirm or deny)it does matter. Are their votes determined by the viewpoints of their constituents and what is best for the City as a whole or by political positioning. At least one Alderman has already had a $250. per head fundraiser, saying ask me in 2 years what I am running for.

I am not here to question or judge anyones intentions or integrity, I just want our elected Alderman to remember the job they were elcted to do, and not let future ambitions override their commitment and obligation to their current constituency.

Stay tuned, the July campaign finance reports will be published in just over 90 days, this will shed some insight!
