Annapolis Capital Punishment

Ahh, summertime and the living is easy--at least for the Mayor of Annapolis, who is off to Europe for two months. Two months!--and according to some sources, via the Queen Mary no less!! And of course with omnipresent boyfriend Dale in tow. Who else gets vacations such as that? Oh I forgot--she was a lobbyist for teachers who get the summer off, and now that she has left the city in the charge of two other educators, well, you get the picture. But school, or at least city government and affairs of the city are still in session.
CP does not fault the Mayor for going on a vacation, but two months? And saying it is to develop our sister city relationships? Well, she seems to have generally assigned that beast to the charge of none other than so-called City Administrator (can you say sinecure?) Bob Agee, who is also running Public Works, though as far as CP knows, without the requisite (read the code) engineering background. Agee went to Brazil and India already, now the Mayor is in Europe.
Everyone needs a break and Ellen Moyer works hard as a public servant. You’ve got to give her some credit and respect for that. Like her or not, disagree with her or not, she needs a break. But two months! She gets paid to work all year long. CP does not know what tangible benefits we derive from having all these sister cities, or why the top two city officials should devote so much of their time to these activities, but we do know that as long as our burgeoning crime problems continue to fester, these sister cities are not sending us any more police to make up for our deficit of sworn officers. As long as the Mayor and police chief continue to downplay the seriousness of this rising crime, well, it’s no wonder that she’d rather be visiting sister cities. Let’s hope she does not get assaulted or mugged. Oh, it’s probably more likely to happen to her in crime-ridden Annapolis--even if the perp does not recognize her.
