Don't Forget the New Downtown Farmers Market

For some reason, CP has not made it there yet, but I hear it's terrific and very popular--and that the artisan cheese are superb. I plan to walk or ride my bike there tomorrow--early tomorrow, before the crowds, the heat and while the best stuff is still available. And don't forget about the other nearby farmer's markets. Their popularity will hopefully spur more such markets to develop. Here is the information for you:

Annapolis FRESHFARM Market (New Market)

Ellis By all means--great produce, terrific baked goods and a nice, pleasant way to enjoy urban life. However, be warned--it is expensive and many of the suppliers come from far away. I wish I could understand why we don't have more local suppliers as we exclusively have at Riva Road. Perhaps that helps to explain the high--actually exorbitant prices. I am more than happy to bike downtown, get fresh fruits from the grower and even to pay a bit more than at Safeway or Giant. Perhaps ten or fifteen percent more--but not more than that--which many of these items cost. The best value was the $3 empanadas (stuffed turnovers)by the Bethesda-based baker. The fresh fruits were mouth watering. But will somebody please explain why eliminating the middleman and all the infrastructure and overhead raises instead of lowers costs?
