Don't Let the MTA Kill the 921 Bus. We Must Go to the Governor!

CP has been writing about this for weeks and last thursday night, I joined some fifty other bus supporters to urge the MTA NOT TO CUT the 921 Bus. Did they listen? They have a job to do and that is to cut something to save money. Transit is an easy target. Commuter routes are even easier. Commuter routes that are not as heavily used as others are easiest. However, ridership and revenue are up on this route.

This is what our local newspaper had to say:

Annapolis resident Paul Foer encouraged residents to take their concerns beyond the meeting and to Gov. Martin O'Malley. He encouraged everyone to stand and raise their hands if they wanted to keep the bus route.

"It's unforgivable that a state agency would be cutting routes," Mr. Foer said. "Only making a lot of noise to the governor is going to make a difference."

What the newspaper did not say is that all of you did indeed raise your hands and stand up. All of you did! Let us all join together and go to Governor O'Malley. You have already collected a petition. Excellent--now let's get that to him right away. Contact your state delegates and senators. Some of you have already done so and some of them are writing to MTA and maybe even the governor...but the governor needs to see you and to hear you. I am not a regular customer, but those of you that are must band together and get active. Let me know how I can help.

Just where have you been? Car sales are down 40% and vehicle miles traveled are down. That means less gas tax collected and less titling tax collected. In the coming depression many will lose their jobs and homes and health. Everything is worth less than we thought it was so taxes are going down faster than anyone thought. QUICK- WHAT OPERATING COST OF MDOT would you cut ( eliminating the ICC will not have an effect on operating cost)?. I personally vote we close the airport since the greehouse gas emitted by planes is massive per person. How many people fly versus using the bus? That my choice and those are the kinds of choices that hae to be made> No ducking no excuses. Where would you cut?

Dear Afraid to Identify Yourself:

You ask just where have I been? I've been fighting to keep our bus routes. Since you know so much about it, why don't you tell us who you are and what makes you such a know-it-all? Transit ridership is up across the board and has grown way faster than automobile vehicle miles traveled. If you think closing the airport is a good idea, then sign your name to such pronouncements. You ask where would I cut? Tell us who you are and if I feel like it, I'll answer you. Otherwise my answer is simple--the squeaky wheel gets the grease so we'll protest for what we want. Are you against the Constitutional right to petition our government for a redress of grievances? Now-speaking of greenhouse gases, why don't you quit expelling your Co2 with such ridiculous talk?
