Oh Nine On Line for May 22 : What's happening in the wards?

Ward Six Candidate Greg Stiverson's party last night attracted some three dozen supporters to the Eastport Fire Station where Stiverson made a short but jam-packed speech about issues and outlining what he envisions for Annapolis including his support for a city manager. Though he has plenty of managerial and board experience, a wealth of knowledge about Annapolis and the ability to articulate our many challenges, Stiverson faces some of his own as a Republican in what is probably the most gerrymandered ward in the city. The mostly residential Ward Six, bordering Truxtun Park, is referred to by some as the "forgotten ward". It includes a lot of our public housing communities, although I seriously doubt that any of those residents were in last night's crowd which is unfortunate. Public housing residents can choose to remain disenfranchised and used to the advantage of some, or to become full participants in our city's political life whose activists and leaders are increasingly recognizing what should never have been an issue in the first place--that they are residents of Annapolis. However, if voters will focus on experience and ability, I believe that he faces good prospects. His apparent challenger, Kenny Kirby, has held a remarkably low profile and has remained relatively obscure. Also in attendance were Herb McMillan, Scott Bowling, Chris Fox, and Julie Stankivic....and Greg's daughter Emmy Stiverson who made yummy brownies and cookies.

What's
happening in the wards?

One
-Incumbent Dick Israel(D) in the race...fund-raiser coming up in June..no challengers yet
Two-Incumbent Fred Paone(R) in the race...no word on a challenger
Three-Incumbent Classie Hoyle(D) in the race, Challenger Scott Bowling (R)
Four-Incumbent Sheila Finlayson(D) in the race...no word yet on a challenger
Five- Incumbent Dave Cordle (R) running for mayor, seat open...Jim Conley(R) challenger
Six- Incumbent Julie Stankivic (I) leaving, Kenny Kirby(D) and Greg Stiverson (R) in race
Seven-Incumbent Sam Shropshire (D) running for mayor, open seat Ian Pfeiffer (D) running..no other as of yet (NOTE: If for some reason, Shropshire is unable to maintain his position,  it is a good possibility that the DCC would choose Pfeiffer to complete his term. Please-- no speculation, I am only mentioning it)
Eight-Incumbent Ross Arnett (D) in the race, Ginger Doyel (R or D?) and Chris Ledoux (I) may seek office

What about The Ninth Ward? You'll have to read The Capital every Wednesday to find out. See this week's column at Ninth-Ward. Where the %#@%&@!! is this Ninth Ward anyhow?....The only thing reasonably certain about this is that there will be at least two new aldermen and of course the mayor, who could possibly be replaced by a sitting aldermen.
