Blackberry? Greenberry? Huckleberry? The Sierra Club and the Kenny Kirby-Chuck Weikel Axis

The Sierra Club is polling candidates via email for endorsement purposes and at least one candidate did not respond after 17 days and so the club wrote to him (and possibly other candidates) the following:

Dear Candidate:
We have not seen a response yet to the candidate questionnaire sent to you July 31, with a request that it be completed and returned by August 15 if you wish to be considered for endorsement by the Anne Arundel Sierra Club . In fairness to those candidates who have taken the time to offer, and put on record, their positions on environmental issues in the city, we will be unable to consider endorsements of any who do not respond. We hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
Thank you.
David Prosten, Chair
Anne Arundel Sierra Club

To which, Mr. Kirby or someone in his campaign responded (and note the cc's to candidate Zina Pierre, candidate Josh Cohen, Mayor Ellen Moyer and Democratic leader Kory Blake:

Mr Kirby does not check his email regularly. You should [sic] your request to him in writing at 100 Conley, Annapolis, 21403.

We feel it unfarly treats poor and disadvantaged minority candidates to be so reliant on emails.

Thanks.

The Kirby Campaign

Hmm. "You should your request." Or how about "We feel it unfarly treats..." Since when did an email become an issue of unfair treatment to a group, other than perhaps certain physically or mentally challenged individuals? So did Kirby answer that or was it someone else? Why have email if you do not check it? How could he have a web-site but not have access to email? Why put your email address on your web-site if you do not use it? He could not find a computer in more than two weeks? To which I add especially when he is running for office!! How will a candidate be an effective representative in the 21st century if as a candidate, he cannot use email? I wrote to Mr. Kirby three times previously and he never responded.

Now, here comes the good part. Disgraced Democratic activist and FOE (who is supposedly off on his boat or in China somewhere according to his blog) Chuck Weikel (remember Wacky Weikel?) who appears to be acting as a de facto manager/adviser/cheerleader for Mr. Kirby gets involved and writes to his trusty sidekick (and others as always..which is how CP gets these juicy bits...) the following:

Do you have to be white to be green?

What is going on here? Is money and the Internet the final arbiter? Is a Blackberry required to have an Eco conscience?

Blog worthy.

Yes indeed Chuck. Blogworthy it is.

While Chuck and Craig again play the race card in so many ways and now post on their blog a 60 second interview with Mr. Kirby in which Chuck (posing as pseudonymous citizen reporter "Bill Charles") asks a leading question about privatization of public housing. Mr. Kirby explains why he thinks it would make Annapolis a less inclusive city and is part of a stigma against the poor. He does not explain why.

By the way, I have been in various public housing communities and publicly funded clubs and offices all over town and I can tell you that there are a lot--I mean a lot of publicly funded computers available...and in our libraries as well.

Maybe Chuck should get Mr. Kirby a Blackberry! Or maybe, a Greenberry??? A Huckleberry?
Weikel did ask, "Do you have to be white to be green?" What kind of ridiculous $@%! is this?

I asked Sierra Club Chair David Prosten specifically about whether or not Kirby had replied. Prosten said nothing more than, "As to if and how any specific candidate has responded, or not, we take great pains to treat everyone equally and not do anything that would possibly influence a candidate’s standing, one way or the other, until the time at which we make our endorsement(s), if any."

Seems pretty clear to me. They even gave him another chance to respond after the deadline. (My guess is that the club will endorse Josh Cohen. Prosten's wife Sarah Flynn is a leader in the Democratic party machine.)

This Weikel disturbance is nothing but a game--a computer game, and Weikel is the one at the keyboard playing Mr. Kirby who might want to carefully consider his decision to associate with Weikel. All I have been trying to do is help the public learn about you and your stand on the issues but considering how you may miss out with the Sierra Club, it seems that avoiding informing the public may be a pattern. My offer still stands. Call me if you like, but an email will be fine---sent by a Blackberry, Greenberry or even a Huckleberry.....Fin.

Post Script.....Remember How I mentioned the new "Annapolis Decides" web-site yesterday www.annapolisdecides.com/? Well, Kenny Kirby's responses to each and every question was "No Response".....perhaps he did not get the email?
