We continue to post responses from the candidates as they come in. This just in from Independent Chris Fox.
"The numbers don’t lie, the banning list has worked. Violent crimes, as well as non-violent crimes, are down. I believe the majority of law abiding citizens of public housing also support the banning list. A lot of credit has to be given to Chief Pristoop for implementing some aggressive policing policies, which are sometimes controversial.
I do believe that there needs to be more transparency on what constitutes being subject to the list, as well as a clear process of review, for removal. Consideration has to be allowed on a case by case basis whether someone’s arrest, or conviction, warrant addition onto the banned list. The residents placed on the list need to pose a danger to residences of public housing. There also needs to be a clear policy for people who are found innocent of the crimes they are arrested for, to be removed from the banned list, after trail. Simply being arrested for being a non-violent public nuisance (ie an arrest for loitering, or having an open container), should not mean someone should be forced from their home for life. I do support the banning list, but I also call for a clear process for both addition and appeal for removal, as well as each case being individually addressed with consideration being given for type of arrests. In the end we need to remove any and all individuals that do not wish to contribute to the community in a positive manner, and see our public housing as a haven in engage in illegal activities."
