This one is not going away.... Independent mayoral candidate Chris Fox supports the proposed bill allowing bars to stay open until 2 a.m.. Fox, owner of local restaurant Sly Fox Pub on Church Circle, supported similar legislation in 2007 that would have allowed all downtown businesses to have the same liquor laws. That ordinance was defeated 5-4. Currently the city has a moratorium on 2 a.m. liquor licenses in the downtown district, forcing new businesses to operate with a 12 a.m. license. Fox believes this new legislation to allow 2 a.m. licenses, is one small step toward making Annapolis more business friendly.
Democratic candidate Trudy McFall believes it is "inappropriate for the departing city council to rush to do something wrong and ill thought out, as the departing council did four years ago when it rushed to do the faulty Market House lease. I am opposed to the legislation being proposed, but most particularly it being done in this fashion."
Democratic candidate Josh Cohen has already come out in opposition, promising to work to reverse such legislation if passed, as has been reported here.
