Yesterday's Annapolis Rotary Club Forum with the three mayoral candidates was a great opportunity for many of the city's most dedicated community and business leaders to get up close and somewhat personal with Cohen, Cordle and Fox. Not much new to report in terms of their stump speeches or what transpired except to say that all of three of them are becoming much more polished speakers and delivering clearer messages than ever before.
As for last night's forum and quasi-debate at Maryland Hall, that was really quite positive and eye-opening in some respects, mainly how the candidates handled themselves. As for issues and answers, not much new in that department either. In many respects, the crowd was reflective of the nine candidates, panelists and moderator and they were not reflective of the broader demographics of the city either. If I have some time and don't fall asleep, I'll pound out a few lines....
District 30 candidate for the House of Delegates and Cohen volunteer Judd Legum has posted a piece about Dave Cordle on his blog. It's a negative piece but it raises some good points. However, I disagree with the assessment that Cordle has not attended every city council meeting. It is hard for anyone to have developed a perfect record over two busy terms, especially since he has a full-time job and a family so I don't fault him or any long-serving lawmaker for missing some votes and meetings. http://www.juddlegum.com/blog/2009/10/cordle-makes-up-for-lost-time/
