OhNine OnLine for October 29 -- Public Safety is Today's Theme

Not one day after I wrote the post  It's Not "City Manager" But "Council-Manager"  the candidates and the media are still getting this wrong. There is no such thing as a City-Manager form of government as I explained yesterday. I got an earful about this from the ICMA and it is important that we all be very clear. So today's Capital twice refers to a "city manager from of government" and even WNAV's moderator and some of the candidates used the same term in Wednesday night's forum.

Can we please get this straight?

TODAY:

Thursday, October 29, SIP n" BLOG with DAVE CORDLE at Zu Coffee, Bay Ridge Giant Shopping Center, 8-9 am. PLEASE!!!! Afterward, join us for a 60 minute educational tour of Annapolis Transit. Hear first-hand from former Annapolis Transit Marketing Specialist and CP Publisher PAUL FOER about what's right--and what's not so right about our bus system. Because of the limited service and bad timing at Bay Ridge (I'll explain later) let us drive with participants back to the Eastport Plaza bus customer shelter by 0930 on Monroe Street and take the Green Route at 9:40, transfer at Spa Road at 10 to the Yellow bus and return to Eastport on the Yellow Route by 10:15 or so.  YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED...See you at Monroe St by 930 or so...

10:00 AM, Democratic mayoral candidate Josh Cohen will be joined by Speaker of the House Mike Busch and Public Safety leaders to lay out his specific plans to make Annapolis safer as mayor.  Josh will also make a major announcement regarding the police chief in his administration.  The plans will build on Cohen's pledge to fundamentally change the way business is done at City Hall.  10:00 AM Thursday, October 29. Heritage Baptist Church Parking Lot, 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis

Friends of Dave Cordle Press Conference Thursday, October 29, 12:00 p.m., Eastport Fire Station, 916 Bay Ridge Avenue, Important campaign announcements and endorsement: Public Safety, Traffic & Development, and Endorsement from Annapolis Professional Firefighters, Local 1926. Cordle says “The people of Annapolis deserve to have the best trained and best equipped public safety professionals working for them, and I will ensure that both our police and fire departments are fully staffed and efficiently responsive to our citizens.”

I can't make the Cohen conference (previously scheduled bus tour), but I will try to attend Cordle's. Let me guess.....hmmm....hmm...all along Fox has specifically and repeatedly said he will retain Police Chief Mike Pristoop. I am guessing that Cohen will say the same thing. His announcement says, "Josh will also make a major announcement regarding the police chief in his administration." Just guessing.  I hope Cohen does not pull in former Police Chief Joe Johnson again. We all remember how bad things got while he stayed on...and on...until other powers brought in Pristoop--who has done his job well. Meanwhile Fox quickly sent out a news release stating that he "continues his pledge to support and retain Chief Pristoop for Annapolis" and that he is "the only candidate that throughout the entire election season has called for Chief Pristoop to be rewarded with a contract."

FRIDAY:
Friday, October 30th, Candidates Breakfast and Live Q and A on 103.1 WRNR, exact time TBD
Tune in to hear the answers to your questions!

Friday, October 30th, Truxtun Park Recreation Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony...our 85,000 square foot "green" building....it's exciting but I have mixed feelings about this for many reasons--mostly budgetary, but hey--check it out...273 Hilltop Lane...4:30 open facility, 5:30 dedication, 6:30 reception...

UPDATE:
Annapolis Middle School needs ONLY 4 MORE VCRs for its "Caring Communities" (homerooms)

Have a VCR at home gathering dust? Donate it to AMS so that it can be used to bring TELEVISED morning announcements to each Caring Community. Principal Scott informed the AMS PTSA that he has been working with the AACPS Instructional Equipment office to successfully install the system that will run the morning announcements from the broadcast area in the Telecor sound room to each Caring Community through a VCR. Principal Scott, with our help, is committed to having morning announcements broadcast throughout the Caring Communities prior to the end of the first marking period (10/30).

Due to overwhelming community support AMS now only needs 4 VCRs. What an amazing opportunity for the students at AMS! Students will learn through doing. An AMS Student Production Company will begin its training after school within the next few weeks.

Please bring your gently used but still in working condition (with remote and all necessary cords/cables if possible) to the school office 410-267-8658 to schedule a pick up.
Thank you!
