Mayor Cohen Interviewed on WYPR Says Regarding Chuck Weikel, "I publicly condemn these scurrilous attacks..they are really out of place"...Learn More About Weikel's Most Recent Hijinks

Listen to a recent interview with Karen Hosler on WYPR, the public radio station from Baltimore in which Mayor Cohen says among other things that "these Chuck Weikel postcards, there is no question, you quote me as saying they are over the top, outlandish etc. He adds that Doug Smith was "the target of some unjustified criticism". Cohen said that, "He saved taxpayers over a million dollars with just some of the changes we implemented" but he admitted that as mayor, he was in violation of the city charter by hiring Smith. True enough.

Capital reporter Josh Stewart who was on the interview, apparently was told by Weikel that he would not let Stewart interview him because he misquotes him. Stewart said he never interviewed Weikel before, so how could he have misquoted him?

The interviewer said, "I did talk to Chuck who said he did not want to sign his postcards because they would be "a distraction from his message." Oh yeah. From his otherwise meaningful and important message. As if his postcards were not a distraction in and of themselves. And a woman named Elizabeth from Annapolis called in to say she was shocked by those postcards.

The discussion about city management was a little off-base until at the end when Cohen corrected the misconception. The interviewer seems as if she is dealing with issues outside her radar screen at times, but local politicos will find this worthwhile.
