Conservation Voters to Give Award to Mike Busch; Claims Big Success in Recent Primaries

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) 10th annual John V. Kabler Memorial Award Event will be Monday, October 18 in Annapolis. Mike Busch, Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates from the Annapolis-area District 30, will be the award recipient. The LCV says that "this will be an energized gathering of 250 elected officials and conservation-minded leaders from across the state coming together to support Maryland LCV's critical work."

Regarding the recent primary elections, LCV Executive Director Cindy Schwartz said, “Marylanders made it clear on Primary Day – electing candidates who care about the environment is a priority. In primaries all over the state candidates were talking about a clean energy economy, restoring the Bay, and protecting our quality of life. Voters were responding to this—they sent a clear message that when it comes to the environment, a strong conservation candidate is a winner in Maryland.” This was
demonstrated in three important Senate races across the state. In Montgomery County’s 14th District, Prince Georges County’s 24th District, and in the 46th District of Baltimore City, entrenched incumbents whose votes on environmental legislation did not reflect the values of their constituents appear to have lost.

At 3:00 pm on Wednesday, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters reported an 88% win ratio of the organization’s endorsed candidates in the state’s Primary Elections. A total of 110 out of 125 endorsed candidates won their races; another 10 races in which the group made endorsements remain too close to call."

ACP readers know what I generally think of endorsements but the LCV appears to be making serious inroads in maintaining and building their legislative and political agenda to protect our Bay, air and land.
