Perhaps you have met Arlie Schardt who has been an Eastport resident for a couple of years. The amazingly active and outspoken man is a veteran journalist who covered the civil rights movement in the South as well as sports and national politics. He also served as national press secretary for Al Gore's 1988 presidential campaign and founded the Environmental Media Service. He is the former Executive Director of the Environmental Defense Fund, a former associate director of the American Civil Liberties Union and is currently board chair of Friends of the Earth.
