(from a news release) As part of its annual Inspiring Philanthropy series, the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County is hosting a free presentation titled "Five Myths About Our Land Of Opportunity" presented by Isabel V. Sawhill, a Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution. Ms. Sawhill is one of the USA's foremost social science thinkers on child welfare.

It will be held on October 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Annapolis Maritime Museum, 723 Second Street in Eastport and

For the first time ever, our younger generation may not be as well off as their parents. What impact will this have on our community? What does this mean for philanthropy and grantmaking? Also under discussion: the obstacles that low-income families face when trying to climb up the economic ladder; the proliferation of single-parent households and their impact on poverty levels; what education and economic success looks like; and the federal government's role in providing social services.
In addition to Ms. Sawhill, local experts will talk about how these national issues relate to our community and what is being done to address them. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served. Please reserve a space by October 4 by contacting Amy Francis at 410-280-1102 or amy@cfaac.org .

Parking for the event is available at Horn Point Marina, 105 Eastern Avenue, Annapolis. (Or why not walk, ride a bike, carpool or go by bus?)
