I read it again and posted it below for all CP readers to do the same. Speaking of King George versus President George, I found a few choice phrases which seem to ring true today. For example:
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.(Abuse of executive power)
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries. (Well not judges, but certainly federal attorneys)
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance. (or at least to make us wait in long lines to seize our nail clippers...)
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences (Hmmm....Guantanamo? Abu Ghraib?)
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people. (Can't argue with that one--can we?)
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. (Hey--now it's starting to remind me of Mayor Moyer!)Speaking of which, try this one on...
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
Okay, so I am waxing poetic. Just a thought or two...

I enjoyed your King George v. W posts. I keep this quote with me for encouragement: "A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt....If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1798, after the passage of the Sedition Act
