In an article in today's newspaper about funding priorites for the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board, Annapolis Mayor Ellen Moyer made sure to critique OTHER transit systems by saying, "Transit is the most compelling need," Ms. Moyer said. "Connectivity for bus routes, meeting up with trains and connecting for pedestrian and bicycles. We don't have a very good transit system in the state, and the region recognized this."
Wake up and smell the coffee Mayor Moyer. We have our own bus system here. What are you doing to improve that? I rode on two buses today and both were achingly hot. What about the air conditioning repairs that were coming? What about the waste and mismanagement of our own local system? What attention have you paid to that? Do you ever ride our buses? The local paper reported that help was on the way to fix air conditioners on those buses, but I guess they are as complex as air conditioners at The Market House.
As long as you continue to allow Transportation Director Danielle Matland to essentially act without oversight and to run the department as she sees fit, we will not see any improvements. There is nothing in the way of YOU, yes you, which is to say our city, fixing our bus system, but as long as you'd prefer to point fingers elsewhere, our own bus system will languish.
Yes you are working to improve sidewalks and you are taking steps to improve bicycling, but you have ignored Annapolis Transit since you have been mayor. With all your interest in air pollution, you have failed to recognize the potential of our bus system to attract people from out of the cars.
