Poll Respondents Strongly Oppose Tax Cap

More than half of CP readers responding to a poll oppose a city tax cap while only one-third support it. During the one-week poll, the numbers were consistently in the even stronger two-to-one range, but those in favor began to close the gap toward the end of the week. When asked if they support the tax cap proposal, 67 readers responded as follows:

You're Darn Tootin I Do
23 (34%)
Are You Kidding? No I Do Not
38 (56%)
I Am Not Sure
6 (8%)

CP reminds readers that these polls are unscientific and are not representative of a large or random sample. For what it's worth, CP signed the petition to bring this to referendum but opposes the cap for reasons that will be articulated later. It remains to be seen of course whether sufficient signatures will be collected to bring this to a ballot vote, as is the case with the other petition for the city manager. However, in two earlier polls, CP readers even more strongly support a city manager form of government than oppose a tax cap. Hmmm....
