As of 10:00 pm Monday, this is what we can learn from the city's web-site about last minute filings for candidates:
Sam Shropshire FINALLY got listed as of 10 pm. Late. Late. Late.....why would he wait so late? According to one observer, "Sam dramatically left the Council Chamber at 8:40 to file for mayor. Came back looking like a winner."
We now have a Republican challenger to government relations consultant and Democrat Ian Pfeiffer in Ward Seven. Her name is Jennifer Monteith of 3 Silverwood Circle #6. Apparently she is a science fiction writer and a business marketing consultant (this information based on a brief internet search).
Rockford "Rock" Toews, will be the Republican challenger to Incumbent Ross Arnett in Ward 8. Toews, of State Street, has been an Eastport resident since 1991 is a dealer in used and rare books. He is married and has two small children.
There are a lot of names on the list for the central committees, but none as colorful as Wacky and Weird Chuck Weikel (also posted at 10 pm) who sent an email out today which among other distortions and fantasies, he wrote that he intends to:
"Be a Voice for Democrat's Principles. A key role of the Democratic Central Committee is to stand up to the hate bloggers and the newspaper that supports them. They should not be comped at Party events at ADCC expense and need to be held to task for their threats and intimidation."
I would think it is more appropriate to say that a key role of the Democratic Party is to dismiss and distance itself from the hateful Mr. Weikel and hold him to task for his threats and intimidation. City Central Committee Chair Nick Berry has already done that and COunty Councilman and mayoral candidate Josh Cohen's campaign has publicly disavowed any relationship with him. At least Weikel is running with six others, including another Ward One resident, the eminently more agreeable and effective yet perhaps equally colorful Tony Evans. Weikel has been marginalizing and alienating himself for a long time so this will be interesting. By the way, it's "news" to me that a newspaper has been "supporting" me. I did go to one ADCC event where the $3 fee was comped by Chairman Berry. The other time I paid for it, but I have certainly provided a lot of free promotion for Democratic events.
Chuck --if you are that worried about the $3, I will gladly pay it back to the ADCC--whether or not you get elected (doubtful), if I am asked officially. But when will you pay back all the money owed due to the failed Annapolis Alive events for which you were responsible and all the money you received as a sole-sourced, hand-picked contractor for Mayor Moyer to work on parking issues while The Knighton Garage lost so much money?
Dear Democrats and County Chair Kory Blake--it's time to deal with this situation positively and clearly....

Chuck was saying that The Capital supports you. You are an employee...right?
First of all, Chuck says all kinds of things about all kinds of people quite often and while making me the subject of his campaign for a seat on the Democratic Central Committee is quite flattering, it is terribly misguided. He seems to think that the newspaper and I are in bed together or are conspiring with an agenda. Well, that ain't happening.
Second of all, the transitive verb "supports" is general and not very explicit. What exactly do you mean by "supports"?
Third of all, I am not an employee of The Capital, but a weekly columnist who receives a weekly check--a stipend, a token, an honorarium, a small fee, a tiny payment if you will.
I speak with the editor on occasion and once in a while we discuss story ideas. He has given me wide latitude and has so far exercised no control or judgments over what I submit which is published without alteration.
Does this constitute "supports"?
And finally, while I am trying to be transparent, why does any of this matter to you? While I appreciate your recent spate of letters, why not tell us more about yourself? I would assume you are the Enrique Melendez on the school board--yes?
If you wish to examine the misuse, waste and inefficient use of OUR MONEY--of our public dollars, ask similar questions of Chuck, who has received contracts via Ellen O with OUR money.
With all the time and energy I put into writing this blog and writing for The Capital, I certainly do not earn a living. Asking about me is misguided, to say the least.
Wasn't expecting all that. Was just saying that I read it as the Capital supports you--as in you are en employee and typically one's job tends to support them.
But since you are not an employee, I rescind that.
I agree, Chuck is a bit out there.
The problem with Chuck is not so much that he is "out there" which if it were but that, we'd ignore him. It's that he's "in there" too, as in the Democratic party and in cahoots with a lot of phony BS....
