Eastport Elementary School's PTA has received a grant from Unity Gardens to install a sensory garden on the school grounds. The garden will feature five raised beds - one representing each of the five senses - and will be designed and maintained with involvement from students at the school as well as members of the surrounding community. The purpose of the garden is to provide EES students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about plants and their life cycle as well as to get excited about gardening. The garden will also be accessible to the community. Questions contact Kathleen Booth at kathslat@aol.com / c. 410 271-6394
Matching funds for the garden project have also been provided by the PTA and the Eastport Civic Association, and the MRE Moms and Dads is coordinating volunteers to carry out the work needed to construct the garden. Garden construction will take place on Saturday, October 17 from 8 am to 2 pm and help is needed in many areas including removing the existing grass, leveling and tilling the soil, constructing raised beds, hauling soil and pea gravel to garden site, etc. If you are interested and available to help, please sign up by clicking the link here. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided!!! http://www.doodle.com/x499zmuyaxi6xfi2
