My goodness, Mr. Paul, what kind of sentence is that?
My goodness, it is a true, complete and clear sentence. Allow me to explain:
"Principal Patrick Gonzales had been affiliated with but not engaged in polling with Zina Pierre's campaign."
I hope that clears up any confusion. If there is still confusion, I suggest you look up "affiliated" in the dictionary.
Thank you for the opportunity.
Dear Mr. "Journalist"
Principal Patrick Gonzales had been affiliated with, but not engaged, in polling for Zina Pierre's campaign.
Sincerely,
The AP Stylebook
Good grief. Here we go again. I am publishing this even though it is anonymous because it is so amusing.
The idea of a book writing an email is too funny. I pulled my AP Style Manual off the shelf--but where within it am I supposed to look? What is your beef? Is it the placement of the comma? Perhaps you have a point, but was it improper grammar or usage? Gee whiz--can you write a real comment and sign your name and tell me what exactly is your concern???
Gonzales was involved in Pierre's campaign. He was not doing polling, he was a volunteer supporter. OK?? Hence, he was "affiliated with" Pierre but he was not engaged in polling. Any further questions or is class over? Can I go now?
