What Did Alderwoman Classie Hoyle Really Mean to Say? Hoses, the KKK and Bloggers?

Who knows? Ms. Hoyle is refusing to answer two emails or return a phone call but local attorney and House of Delegates candidate Judd Legum "tweeted" on "Twitter" recently that Classie Hoyle publicly said "We don't have hoses or the kkk ...but we still have the bloggers".

She apparently uttered this at the recent Fannie Lou Hamer awards ceremony. She did not answer me and so we are left to speculate.....hmmmm....hmmmmm....Bloggers? Hoses? KKK?

Is this the same Classie Hoyle with whom I had a pleasant conversation in the grocery store a few weeks ago? (At that same conversation, the long-serving alderwoman and chair of our finance committee told me that she had only recently learned that the city owns a 500-acre park on Defense Highway, and it's our water plant too...) Is this the same Classie Hoyle with whom I have spoken with many times? Is this the same Classie Hoyle whose home I have visited? Is this the same Classie Hoyle who I spoke with at Zina Pierre's victory party on election night? Is this the same Classie Hoyle who stood next to me at Zina Pierre's press conference a couple of weeks ago?

I don't know. She's not saying. She made similar "interesting" remarks a week or so ago and I went through the same motions of calling and emailing her to ask for comments, clarification or explanation, but Ms Hoyle wasn't talking then either and she's not talking now. We are left to speculate what Alderwoman Hoyle meant when she said, "We don't have hoses or the kkk ...but we still have the bloggers".

Perhaps this is what she meant by a hose:

Perhaps this is what she meant by the KKK:

Perhaps this is what she meant by a blogger (or is it a blogger who got hosed?).

Lest you think I make light of a serious situation, just reflect on the video story from the ex KKK member and how the Reverend got the best of him by deflecting the hate hurled against him with good humor and love. Sometimes we take things way too seriously. If the alderwoman had made a serious and not such a flippant comment, I would have responded with a serious answer.  For another interesting take on this, visit Joshua Stewart's blog comments at Hoses?

I am surprised you missed the connection. Historically, blacks have been "controlled" by various means. Firehoses (hoses) were used to control blacks. http://journals.democraticunderground.com/McCamy%20Taylor/371

And obviously the KKK was used to control them as well.

It seems she is saying that there is someone trying to control, put down, supress blacks. ANd she alludes that it is bloggers.

Take it for what you will

Dear Anonymous I'll break my own rule again.

Oh-is that what she meant? Of course that's what she meant. Nobody missed the connection but you who missed my point completely. Sometimes a hose is just a hose--as in a garden variety hose.

As I wrote, "Sometimes we take things way too seriously. If the alderwoman had made a serious and not such a flippant comment, I would have responded with a serious answer."

Take that for what you will.
