Ralign Wells, a 42-year-old Baltimore native and former bus operator will take over what the Maryland Transportation Secretary calls "the toughest job in state government" - Maryland transit administrator. While this may be the first time an MTA Administrator has begun as an operator or driver, it is not all that uncommon among transit agencies throughout the US and CP is personally familiar with many such individuals and agencies.
This experience brings a much-needed perspective to a complicated job. Can you imagine if our overpaid bus system director actually had been a driver, much less if she even bothered to ride the buses once in a while instead of commuting the one mile in her pick-up truck to work? Perhaps we'd have a much better bus system, happier customers and better morale among employees.
