For years, we knew this BRAC thing up at Fort Meade was going to be big--even really big...but this is whooaaa.....ENORMOUS!!!! Bigger than the Pentagon? Whoaaa....Beyond what this means for the county and anything within 50 miles, this has absolutely awesome implications for the military industrial complex, the national security state...and just as we go try to do in Afghanistan what nobody else before us could do either.... I can't even get my head around this....I will be following and writing about this, but for now....just check out Joshua Stewart's article in Sunday's Capital.....oh man, oh man....I just can't get over this.....IT IS HUGE...geeze where have we been? Where have I been???

Its a complex story to cover. What's missing from this current report is the tax revenue battle over the "Enhanced Use Leasing (EUL)" lands owned by the Army and having office parks built upon by the private developer. County loses tax revenue, but gains businesses to provide services for. How is county compensated? Is the financial balance appropriate and fair?
Oh, and the fact that 144 acres of contiguous forest are being removed to site an 18 hole golf course in the forest, who's cost to develop is paid for by the EUL land developer. Don't we have Compass Pointe available and underused? The EIS is interesting reading.... up to max of 7,200 new students in AA Co. schools....
