Help Annapolis Join Obscura Day Around the World on Saturday, March 20, 2010

Clear your calender for OBSCURA more...

Obscura Day on March 20th will celebrate curious places all around the world-and we need help in identifying the curious places in and around Annapolis.  Send in your ideas to CP at PAUL@FOERFRONT.COM

Atlas Obscura is getting access to private collections, exploring hidden treasures, and leading expeditions to places that aren't normally open to visitors. In Philadelphia,  they'll provide a special back-room tour of the Mutter Museum. In Tokyo, they'll be exploring the world's largest underground drainage system. In London, take a walking tour of the lost River Fleet. Outside of Los Angeles, Geoff Manaugh of BLDGBLOG will be leading an expedition to investigate a vast, un-built suburb in the Mojave desert. Near Chicago, Jim Onan will be guiding us through his eccentric six-story gold-plated pyramid house.

There are Obscura Day events lined up in 27 cities so far. Their goal is to spread Obscura Day to dozens more cities on every continent. To do that they need our help.   Let CP know of the most curious, unusual places or things in and around Annapolis and we'll help you plan an event.

A Few of the Cities where Obscura Day is Happening:
Anniston, AL - Explore two incredible museums . .> California City, CA - A photo-safari into a ghostly, never-completed California suburb. .>
San Francisco, CA - An outing to Playland-at-the-Beach's yesteryear contraptions. .>

Don't See Anything Near You? Organize an Event!

The events they've set up so far are just the beginning. They want us to go forth into our community, find the wonders in our backyard, and share them with the world. To find out how we can put the wheels in motion in our own hometown, visit and they'll work with CP to sort out the details.

Watch it Unfold

Everywhere Obscura Day is happening they''ll be posting photos, blogging, and tweeting -- and  hope we will too, so that we can all share in each city's finds. Follow us and join in on Twitter and Facebook and s

Here's some places in Maryland on Atlas Obscura to get the inspiration going - nothing in Annapolis yet, though

The Water Works Park on 450 Defense Highway in Annapolis is a great park area with two ponds, great terrain, Best of all is the solitude. For legit entry need permit from Annapolis City Hall.
