Last Night's fundraiser for Delegate Ron George was attended by many known Republicans.....it was a pretty high-end affair with, oh, I guess maybe fifty or sixty persons, many other candidates and featured former Attorney General Ed Meese..whose hand I shook, as I introduced myself as a local, leftwing, liberal, communist and then requested Alderman Fred Paone, also a known Republican, to make sure Mr. Meese got a parking ticket as that is how we are funding our government. Meese told a few stories about his former boss, The Gipper, also a Ron of course, and there are a lot of Rons these days...as in George, Elfenbein and Jarashow (and he was there too...) and also in spirit, the aforementioned Ronald Reagan. Meese, who must be the other side of 80 looked good, spoke well and entertained the crowd before introducing George. He talked about his record of accomplishment in protecting the environment while looking out for the interest of people and businesses among his other accomplishments. George is a fine public speaker and took questions from the crowd. I'm not so sure how right on he is regarding the supposedly abyssmal state of our state, but he is a in the distinct Republican minority. This District 30 race is going to get really exciting after the primary...and I am looking forward to attending some Democratic fundraisers. I can only sip so much wine and nibble on so many hors d'oeuvres (spelling?) while in a suit....I need to throw back some beers in some blue jeans....c'mon Dems--put on some parties...no word on how much $ George raised but let's just say that the not terribly diverse crowd appeared to be able to give and give a lot and was probably in a giving mood...
