The Anne Arundel Sierra Club has announced two more endorsements for the Nov. 2 general election, closing out its endorsement activities for 2010.The group’s executive committee voted unanimously to endorse Democrat Torrey Jacobson, longtime Crofton community activist for the District 7 County Council seat. In a state delegate contest, the Club endorsed newcomer Jeremiah Chiappelli, a Democrat, in legislative district 31.
With these two new endorsements, this is the lineup of endorsed candidates in the county:
For County Council:
District 4: Jamie Benoit
District 6: Chris Trumbauer
District 7: Torrey Jacobsen
For State Legislature:
District 21: Ben Barnes, Barbara Frush and Joseline Pena-Melnyk, delegates; Jim Rosapepe, senate.
District 30: Mike Busch, Virginia Clagett and Judd Legum, delegates
District 31: Jeremiah Chiappelli and Steve Schuh, delegates
District 32: Pam Beidle and Ted Sophocleus, delegates
The group does not automatically endorse in every race. To win an endorsement a candidate must garner the votes of at least two-thirds of the group’s political committee and then at last two-thirds of the executive committee. The endorsement must then win the ok of the Maryland Chapter’s executive committee.
Dr. Ron Elfenbein, candidate for District 30 state senate, announces that Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Dr. Ben Carson will be the honored guest at Ron's Sept. 28 fundraiser. Dr. Carson is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at John Hopkins, and is supporting the event because unless Ron is elected, there will not be a single doctor in the Maryland State Senate (the good news is that Andy Harris, a doctor, is leaving....the bad news will be if he is elected to Congress) Tickets are $250 per person, and the evening will take place at the home of Drs. Matthew & Maria Scott, co-hosted by Senator & Mrs. Bill Brock and twelve other couples (many are physicians themselves). This will be an incredible fundraiser for Ron's campaign and we hope you can join us! Tickets are available online at http://www.september28th.eventbrite.com/.
Elfenbein is offering to pick up unwanted campaign signs and recycle them for Democrat and Republican alike. Simply gather the signs, and Ron or one of his many volunteers will be happy to pick them up at your location. He hopes that by recycling these unwanted campaign signs, he can do a small part to preserve our beautiful state's natural resources. Please email Dr. Elfenbein at ron@electronelfenbein.com to schedule a campaign sign pick up.
