Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announces that another round sandbags will be made available to homeowners and businesses beginning at 6 p.m. downtown at Market House and in Eastport at the 2nd Street Pumping Station.
The Department of Public Works will make available 300 sandbags at Market House and 120 at the Pumping Station. That is in addition to the 600 sandbags that have dropped off downtown since yesterday and at least 120 that have been left in Eastport.
A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect in Anne Arundel County through 10:30 p.m. and a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 5 a.m. Friday. The greatest risk for flooding in Annapolis will occur tonight around the period of the next high tide, which will take place around 11:40 p.m. About 7 inches of rain has fallen in Annapolis, and the forecasters estimate that anywhere from 2 to 4 more inches before the storm blows out tomorrow. The combination of the rainfall and strong southerly winds has led to these flooding conditions.
Public Works is holding nearly 400 additional bags in reserve and will make them available if conditions worsen.
Sandbags are not available at the Roger “Pip” Moyer Community Recreation Center at Truxtun Park. Sandbags were placed there earlier today because of minor flooding.
