We'll get the nasty stff out of the way first. This one came from a neighbor in Eastport, and although it was signed, CP, not wishing to make the writer look even nastier, withholds the name. However, this person has conducted a lot of business with the city and is likely a close associate of the Mayor:
"Paul,
I DO NOT APPRECIATE YOUR INCLUDING ME IN YOUR IDIOT EMAILS. REMOVE ME IMMEDIATELY FROM YOUR LIST AND DO NOT EVER SEND ME ANYTHING AGAIN AS I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOUR FANATICAL RANTS."
CP ASKS: Was it something I said?? (Said letter was written in all caps by the way--Should we call it ALL CAPS PUNISHMENT???)
And this from Matt Long, also an Eastport resident :
“I love the blog. Thank you for the hard work……One must wonder where the priorities of the current administration are placed when our Mayor feels it is appropriate to take a 60 day vacation overseas when our fair city faces so many challenges. Isn’t this behavior out of line for an elected official? Has she amassed some huge pool of vacation days since taking office? Seriously, as ANYONE ever heard of such behavior from a public servant? Please don’t let her concoct some bogus spin on this trip about benefiting Annapolis. Our sister city relationship is nothing more than a boondoggle government officials use to spend taxpayer money traveling and entertaining. Can anyone point to a single improvement/benefit/concept that we have gained from this relationship other than the pretty flags that graced the Spa Creek Bridge a few weeks ago? I am flabbergasted that the Market House still has three parking spaces dedicated to temporary heating and cooling equipment. In 60 days this problem could be rectified. It is unreal that heads did not roll when this gross oversight was originally made, but what reeks more than the incompetent leadership is the lack of corrective action in the year since the blunder was discovered. Can anyone tell me what the equipment rental is costing Annapolis monthly? I would guess that the city has paid more in equipment rentals than the corrective action would have cost if executed swiftly. But who cares, I bet it costs less than a 60 day European vacation to our Sister City. "
CP SAYS: Thanks Matt. I guess our mutual neighbor ( see above) disagrees with what we’re trying to accomplish with our news forum. It’s nice to know CP is not the only one who wonders how our city is being managed. When CP ran for Alderman, one of CP’s top platform priorities was to create a non-partisan, professional, City Manager form of government. Maybe the time has come.
And finally, this from a former elected official and longtime area resident whose desire for anonymity in this case will be respected:
“Hi Paul,
As usual, I enjoyed the facts that you share with the public.
I have one question for you. Do you find it odd that the Mayor did not appoint one
Alderperson to serve as acting Mayor for two months, so that that person would
receive salary for taking on her headaches? Instead the 2 months were divided up to be
less than 28 DAYS, at which time no one is paid, according to the law. Anyone serving as Acting Mayor for 28 days or more will be paid for time served. All other times is VOLUNTEER time and will not be compensated... Huuum That is not the actual wording, as I paraphrase! I understand, Bob Agee is the interim PW Director until the Mayor returns and replaces Patmore."
CP SAYS: Good question. CP wonders why HerHonor did not choose the two most veteran Alderpersons to serve in this role. Let’s see, that would have meant Dave Cordle in addition to Classie Hoyle….hmmm, I guess that answers that question. Too bad--it would have been a bold and meaningful thing to do…hmmm..I guess that answers it again….
