Tug of War XI Next Weekend

Saturday, Nov. 8

Yes, the MRE is in the midst of planning for that extreme sports event (and big party) Tug of War XI, beginning at the Crack of Noon.

Organizers are making sure that the Tug celebrates all things Eastport and local artists, business people, nonprofits, service people, etc., are welcome to come and display their wares, services, causes, etc.

For info about the tug, and on how to be a Tug vendor -- or to join a Tug team! -- see the MRE website.

Art Between the Creeks Opens Nov. 14

The artists of the Art Between the Creeks group open their fall show, IS, on Nov. 14.

The show will run Nov. 14-16, at Annapolis Yacht Club's Sailing Center. It will feature the work of 21 local artists, including one who is new to the group. While some of the work is traditional, the artists in this group consider themselves different from the mainstream, or Main Street, art scene in Annapolis. They seek to challenge themselves, their audience, and other artists with their eclectic work.

The artists themselves will create a temporary gallery at AYC's Sailing Center, at the foot of the Spa Creek Bridge, on the Eastport side. The opening reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, from 6 - 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments while viewing the show.

Media represented includes oil and acrylic painting, watercolors, sculpture, pen and ink, ink on wood, photography and multi-media.

ECA Sponsoring Screening of "Pip & Zastrow"
Saturday, Nov. 15, 4 p.m.
Fellowship Room, Eastport United Methodist Church, 926 Bay Ridge Avenue

ECA is sponsoring and inviting all the Eastport community to a showing of "Pip and Zastrow: An American Friendship," a locally-made film documenting a fascinating chapter in Annapolis history. "On an April night in 1968, cities around the country exploded. Annapolis threatened to do the same," but the unique friendship between these men and the actions they took kept our town quiet and calm.

"Pip & Zastrow: An American Friendship" is the true story of two men who cross racial boundaries during segregation in the 1940s and form a life-long friendship that takes extraordinary turns. With humor, compassion and heartbreak, Pip and Zastrow navigate through 60 years against the
backdrop of the civil rights movement and a country that has yet to overcome deep-seated racism and social inequity.

We will have the film producers as well as Pip Moyer and Zastrow Sims themselves present to talk about their experience and answer questions after the film.
