You all remember the story a few weeks back about what local Republican activist and leader Joyce Thomann wrote comparing Obama and Hitler on the Republican Women of AA County's web-site? The story made national news and one astute reader said the story was broken here--in fact, he was the one who turned me on to the story after other media were ignoring it. But first, from Today's Capital which reports that Thomann will give a private talk titled "Setting the Record Straight" next month to her club on Aug. 12. Got that? A private talk. It's not open to the public. I guess she is tired of the limelight. Well, how did she get into that limelight? How does blogging and the news media work? Does news exist in a "contagion?"
I posted a story about it late in the morning on June 23, see: Annapolis Capital Punishment: RWAAC Digs Itself in Deeper and it appeared the next day on Olbermann. On July 1, The Washington Jewish Week wrote, "Following a flurry of condemnation on several left-leaning Internet blogs, and an article by the liberal news Web site The Huffington Post...." The Huffington Post first posted at 6:54 pm on 6-23 and said it got the story from Think Progress and wrote this: (as ThinkProgress reported today).
Think Progress said it got it from local blogger Judd Legum so I visited his blog where he posted on June 23, apparently early in the afternoon with a note at the bottom saying HT (Judd tells me it means "hat tip") followed by a link to the post here at CP. My piece posted at 11:04 am.
That was in reverse order so here goes in chronological order: CP gets wind from a reader and posts at 11:40 am. Judd Legum reads it and adds to the story at Legum's New Line. Think Progress picks up on it and it goes to The Huffington Post and Olbermann. Then weeks later The Capital writes "The comments quickly spread and riled up the blogosphere..."
I think Ms. Thomann should at least invite me to her meeting if she won't hold a public meeting, but I plan to be away that day. Can we make it another time? Perhaps she should just stand up in a beer hall and make a big speech! Or maybe, just maybe President Obama will invite us to the White House for a Beer? Would he serve a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier or a Spaten Oktoberfest? Or maybe just a Bud or Coors....?
