Capital Punishment on Capital Punishment

Despite its double-entendre name, it's rare but not unheard of for this blog to actually cover or comment on the issue of state sponsored executions. However, James Von Brunn, the 89-year old Annapolis man who shot and killed a guard at the US Holocaust Museum earlier this year and who was shot behind the ear, now uses a wheelchair and has trouble hearing and speaking. Had this happened to him as a child in Nazi Germany, he would have been euthanized and then would never have shot up the museum. Of course it would have been better had there been no Nazi Germany at all and therefore no museum but.... It turns out that while being incarcerated and treated by the Washington, DC Department of Corrections, he has run up a bill of $55,000. He is now in a federal medical center in North Carolina.

89 years old. In prison. Unable to walk. Has trouble hearing and speaking. We're going to continue to pay for his care and put him on trial? What if a nurse just happened to allow a big air bubble in an injection? Or gave him the wrong pill?....or.....oh never mind....
