City of Annapolis Police Department Unveils Interactive Crime Map

The new online Interactive Crime Map allows the public to search all homicides, first degree assaults, rapes, robberies, burglaries and larcenies reported in the City of Annapolis. Citizens are able to search crimes by location - including address, patrol post and Ward - by type of crime and by date. The interactive map will allow users to view certain details about each crime.

“The Annapolis Police Department recognizes the importance of geographic information system (GIS) mapping as a tool for crime prevention and community outreach,” said Chief Michael Pristoop. “We hope this interactive crime map will help us build even greater community trust and awareness in our City.”

Funds for the new software were obtained through a Byrne Justice Allocation Grant. The APD pays a licensing fee once per year

"Having an internally produced site allows us to customize the map to meet the specific needs of the City of Annapolis," said Beth Hart, Special Projects Director for the Annapolis Police Department. "We can include data like APD patrol posts and City Wards that a third party site would not be aware of. We can also incorporate citizen feedback to make the site better."

The Annapolis Police Department interactive Crime Map can be accessed through www.annapolis.gov/info.asp?page=1364
